SETTIMANA DELLA LINGUA ITALIANA NEL MONDO

Two programs with international breath

PICCOLE VOCI GENIALI invites choirs from primary schools across Victoria to experience Italian through music, creativity, and live performance, combining language learning with artistic expression in an engaging and accessible way. STUDENTS TALENT SHOW - exclusively for secondary school students - is an initiative developed to provide secondary school students with an exciting platform to showcase their musical talent while engaging with Italian culture, creativity, and live performance.
These two shows are endorsed by the Consulate General of Italy of Melbourne for Victoria and Tasmania and the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation of Italy as part of the global celebration of the Settimana della Lingua Italiana nel Mondo (Week of the Italian Language in the World).

AN INTERNATIONAL ENDORSEMENT

An initiative part of a worldwide celebration

This year’s choral event and the newly presented student talent show have grown into much broader initiatives, now recognised by Italian institutions in Melbourne and in Rome.

CONSULATE GENERAL OF ITALY

Endorsed in Melbourne

The Consulate General of Italy in Melbourne — for Victoria and Tasmania — has officially endorsed both the choral event and the student talent show.

MINISTRY OF FOREIGN AFFAIRS

Recognised by Rome

The Ministry of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation of Italy has included the projects in the global celebration of the Settimana della Lingua Italiana nel Mondo.

BEYOND THE FESTA

Part of a worldwide celebration

These projects now extend beyond COASIT Melbourne and the Italian Festa & Expo — connecting our students’ creativity, performances and passion for Italian with a global initiative recognised by Italian institutions around the world.

SETTIMANA DELLA LINGUA ITALIANA NEL MONDO

The Week of the Italian Language in the World

Held annually in the third week of October, organised by the Italian diplomatic-consular network and Italian Cultural Institutes together with the Ministry of Culture, the Ministry of Education and Merit, the Ministry of University and Research, the Accademia della Crusca, the Dante Alighieri Society and many other partners in language promotion.

SINCE 2001

The most important global event for Italian

From its first edition, the Week has received the High Patronage of the Presidency of the Italian Republic and has grown into the most important global event dedicated to the Italian language.

19–25 OCTOBER 2026

The 26th edition

Each year the Week is centred on a theme that inspires conferences, exhibitions, performances and cultural activities. The 2026 edition focuses on “Lingua geniale: ideare, progettare, creare con l’italiano” — a brilliant language: imagining, designing, creating with Italian.

THE THEME

A language of creativity

Italian celebrated as a language of creativity, innovation and imagination — a vehicle for ideas, design, discovery and cultural expression across the arts, literature, science, technology, engineering, fashion, design, gastronomy and history.
