Norton Street Festa 2008

Co.As.It. Italian Association of Assistance is pleased to announce that in conjunction with Leichhardt Council and Leichhardt Chamber of Commerce will be producing the Norton Street Festa in 2008.   

The event will take place on the 12th October 2008.  Norton Street will be closed from Marion street to Alan street and will transform into one large Piazza (Pioneer Park will not be used).   

Co.As.It. is a local Italian specific charity that works in the areas of Community services and education across Sydney.  The Norton Street festa is an event that historically has seen the street transform into a colourful street carnival with live entertainment and activities for children.   

In 2008 Co.As.It. will focus the event on food.  Food as the essence of what Italian culture represents, the generosity, the celebration and the tradition.  The main attractions of the day will include, Nonni in Cucina (Grandparents in the kitchen) hosted by food journalist, Joanna Savill. Local personalities will demonstrate traditional and family secrets to successful meal preparation.  Sydney chef, Danny Russo will demonstrate modern Italian dishes in master classes that will be scheduled throughout the day.  There will be a fresh produce section together with a visual display of an Italian Kitchen Garden.  In the centre of the street a traditional Osteria will be set up where patrons can purchase a typical dish and eat amongst friends on communal tables that will line the street.
